Born on November 27, 1911, in Manila, Philippines, Fe del Mundo was the fifth of eight children. From a young age, she displayed an insatiable curiosity and an unwavering passion for learning. Despite societal barriers that discouraged women from pursuing higher education, Fe del Mundo enrolled at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, becoming the first woman to do so.

Del Mundo's brilliance and dedication led her to excel in her studies, earning a scholarship to further her medical education at Harvard University in the United States. She became the first Asian woman to be admitted to the prestigious Harvard Medical School, an achievement that set the stage for her groundbreaking career.

With unwavering determination, she proved her worth by tirelessly working towards her goals and earning the respect of her peers.

Del Mundo's challenges extended beyond gender biases. As a paediatrician, she confronted the limitations of medical resources available for children in the Philippines. In response, she founded the Children's Medical Center in Manila in 1957, focusing on providing accessible healthcare to underprivileged children. Her unwavering commitment to the well-being of children and her tireless efforts to bridge the healthcare gap was nothing short of extraordinary.

Fe del Mundo's journey was about more than personal achievements; it was a catalyst for change in a world dominated by patriarchal systems. She broke through the glass ceiling, paving the way for future generations of women to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

Her pioneering spirit and determination in the face of adversity make her an iconic figure in the fight against gender inequality. Fe del Mundo's legacy serves as a reminder to women everywhere that their dreams are valid and achievable, regardless of societal expectations.
